Richmond, California

Before there was
a brand, there
were builders.

The story of S*H*U 747 begins with the people whose labor turned steel into history.

01 / Our Story

The foundation

Work created
a new Richmond.

During World War II, Richmond changed from a small city into a home-front industrial center. Its four Kaiser shipyards drew a vast, diverse workforce that built Liberty and Victory ships at historic speed.

More than 6,000 Black workers—including approximately 1,000 Black women—worked in Richmond's Kaiser yards. Their contribution was essential, even as racial discrimination followed them through the gates and into housing, wages, and civic life.

747

The fleet

One number.
Thousands of hands.

The number does not belong to one person. It represents what a workforce can accomplish together. In S*H*U, 747 becomes a living code for discipline, craftsmanship, unity, and motion.

Carried forward

The line from then to now.

1941

The city becomes a shipyard

Wartime industry transformed Richmond into a national center of shipbuilding. Workers arrived from across the country to take part in work that changed the city forever.

1942–45

A new Black Richmond

Thousands of Black workers came west seeking defense jobs. They welded, burned, fitted, lifted, organized, and built—while confronting discrimination in employment, housing, and daily life.

747

A number built by many hands

The Richmond Kaiser shipyards produced 747 ships during World War II. S*H*U carries that number as a tribute to collective labor, speed, skill, and shared purpose.

2021

The modern house begins

The company that would become Sovereign Hustle United was established. Its new name gives one mission to fashion, music, storytelling, youth opportunity, and community ownership.

Heritage code

A-36

The field remembers.

A-36 is carried within S*H*U as the union code behind the historical baseball uniform program—a mark reserved for All-Stars who earn the responsibility of wearing Richmond's story.

The vessel

S.S.

Carried Forward.

The ship is more than scenery. It is the structure of the house: every deck holds a different form of culture, and every visitor boards through a symbol of membership and purpose.

Sovereign Hustle United

The work continues
under a new name.

S*H*U unites independent ownership with cultural memory. Fashion, hip-hop, entertainment, youth baseball, and community work are not separate ventures; they are rooms inside the same ship.

“Built by us. Carried forward.”
